Courtship with Bob

On February 28th 1983 Pam’s friends through her a 43rd birthday party for her to watch the last program of M.A.S.H. I was invited and was on crutches after knee surgery. Just ten days earlier when I was still in the hospital recovering Pam had briefly stopped by to see how I was doing. When I left the birthday party I was thinking “I really like that woman”! It was a Sunday night and i had to get ready for the coming week. I couldn’t get her off my mind all week and the following weekend I went over to the tennis courts to watch her play. During a rest period I took a risk asking her where her new apartment was and she willingly told me.

Another week went by and my friend Gene Gatewood and I were going to check out a new restaurant in Newport Beach called “The Bouzy Rouge Cafe”. Before leaving for the restaurant, I stopped by to see if she wanted to join me and also to meet my friend Gene. She was very reluctant but her son Brett was there eating dinner and he encouraged her to go. She did and it was a lovely evening. At the door I told her that I hoped that we could become more than just friends. I remember her putting her hands in front of her and saying “Let’s slow down. It was a lovely evening, good night!”.
